Located on the Bicentennial Mall between the State Capitol and Legislature buildings in Raleigh, Cambridge Seven, as design architect for O'Brien/Atkins Associates, designed the two-story, 172,000 sf Museum to include exhibit spaces, administrative areas, a gift shop and 300-seat auditorium organized around a 68-foot high atrium with skylights, for the display of larger artifacts. The North Carolina Museum of History is a learning center for schools, featuring a demonstration gallery, classrooms, and youth and folk art areas. Other spaces include a woodworking shop, research library, conservation laboratories, and a restaurant.
