Cambridge Seven Associates developed an exhibit masterplan for Fort Lauderdale’s Museum of Discovery and Science as a precursor to designing an expanded Museum building. Cambridge Seven worked closely with the Museum’s staff to organize and design innovative exhibits that illustrate the three science themes of the Museum: technology, humanity, and the environment. A fourth theme area, the Discovery Center, was developed for children aged 6 and under. Each theme has three components: large icons or immersive exhibits that anchor the space, smaller galleries of hands-on interpretive exhibits, and open studio spaces for a new magnet school. The Discovery Center, which has tripled in size, accommodates many new exhibits, including a submarine play structure, dress-up areas, mazes, and simple machines.
