The Ames Building, designed by Boston’s Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge and built in 1889, is the second tallest bearing wall structure in the United States. The Ames underwent a complete interior renovation to convert the former office building into one of Boston’s newest and most beautiful boutique hotels. Normandy Real Estate Partners commissioned C7A to perform the historic restoration of the entire building and act as hotel planner. Morgans Hotel Group is the operator of the Hotel, and the Rockwell Group designed the interior public space. The hotel features 115 guestrooms, a restaurant, bar/lounge and new lobby. Historic elements of the building, including the lobby’s tile vaulted ceiling, the interior stairway and the building exterior, were fully restored to their original splendor.
