The Tennessee Aquarium is part of a mixed-use complex on the Tennessee River, master planned by Cambridge Seven The Aquarium, with its simple, bold shapes, provides a provocative focus for this new urban center. Glass pyramids at the top of the building reveal glimpses of wild habitats within. The aquarium's exhibit content features fresh water habitats with three major exhibits concentrating on the Tennessee/Mississippi River System; a mountain cove forest with a trout stream; a "lake" section of the river between dams near Chattanooga; and a cypress swamp of the Mississippi Delta. A fourth area displays animals and habitats of other rivers of the world. The aquarium features magnificent views of the Tennessee River, flowing by the building. The plaza and park area provide gathering space and an outdoor connection to the River.
