Cambridge Seven was architect and master planner for the design of the 2.2 million sf super regional "off price" Gurnee Mills to blend with the mid-western landscape. With gabled roofs, silos, and other agricultural images, a rural, prairie building vocabulary was created and used throughout the mall. The interior circulation system is defined by a "main street," orienting shoppers and connecting a variety of courts. The facility, developed by Western Development Corp. and designed by Cambridge Seven, is located on a 455-acre site equidistant from Chicago and Milwaukee. It features 14 anchor stores, 230 tenants, restaurants, themed courts and parking for 10,200 cars. The project was done in association with Communication Arts.
