The West Cambridge Youth and Community Center began as a feasibility study to renovate an existing VFW building. Cambridge Seven Associates' design for the 30,000 sf facility includes a Community Center as well as a Youth Center for teen and pre-teen after-school programs. The building, with commanding views of the rolling landscape across the street, acts as a gateway to Cambridge, yet maintains the scale of the residential buildings along Huron Avenue. The building is a sculptural expression that uses sustainable materials and forms to express the playful nature of the building program. The building contains an NCAA sized basketball court, project room, computer room, teaching kitchen and a community function room as well as meeting and office spaces.
