The West Cambridge Youth and Community Center began as a feasibility study to renovate an existing VFW building. C7A's design for the 30,000 sf facility includes a Community Center as well as a Youth Center for teen and pre-teen after-school programs. The building, with commanding views of the rolling landscape across the street, acts as a gateway to Cambridge, yet maintains the scale of the residential buildings along Huron Avenue. The building is a sculptural expression that uses sustainable materials and forms to express the playful nature of the building program. The building contains an NCAA-sized basketball court, project room, computer room, teaching kitchen and a community function room as well as meeting and office spaces.
