The Mayor Sheila Doyle Russell Youth and Community Center provides athletic and educational spaces for teen and pre-teen after-school programs as well as a dedicated space for veterans. The building acts as a gateway to Cambridge, yet maintains the scale of the residential buildings along Huron Avenue. The 30,000 sf LEED Silver facility is a sculptural expression that uses sustainable materials and forms to express the playful nature of the building program. The building contains an NCAA-sized basketball court, project room, computer room, teaching kitchen and a community function room as well as meeting and office spaces.
The project earned the 2011 Facility of Merit Award by Athletic Business Magazine.
