Cambridge Seven Associates was retained by the University of Massachusetts to conduct a formal study of the program, conceptual design, and costs for an innovative program to integrate the life, chemical, and physical sciences into interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teaching and research programs. The ISB building program calls for 161,980 net sf of space for classroom, laboratory and computer resources for introductory and advanced undergraduate coursework in life sciences and chemistry in addition to research laboratory space for approximately 40 faculty. A key goal for the design of the buildings is to promote daily interactions between students and faculty in both teaching and research settings
