In 1894, a turf war broke out between three science disciplines at Bowdoin, each refusing to integrate their departments, thus thwarting the vision of the school’s then-president. Today, this Century-old wish for departmental unity has been realized. Cambridge Seven Associates’ conversion of Bowdoin's antiquated Searles science facility produced a sophisticated center for Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science. C7A renovations created a lecture hall, nine classrooms, and a seminar room. A new open, three-story community space was added, providing an ADA compliant central circulation spine with places for faculty and students to gather, as well as a new front door to the town, enhancing that elevation and facilitating access.
