The LEED Silver certified Peter Buck Center for Health and Fitness provides a dramatic sense of welcome for the Bowdoin community. C7A’s design takes full advantage of the site, transforming a stark, windowless brick building into a welcoming “lantern” of glass. Three levels, connected by a state-of-the-art climbing wall, contain over fifty cardio and circuit training machines, Athletic Department offices, the Wellness Center, Health Services, and three large multifunction spaces, along with Bowdoin’s symbolic Polar Bear and Hall of Fame display in the lobby. the project received the 2010 BSA Honor Award Citation for Design Excellence.
