Cambridge Seven Associates, in collaboration with The S/L/A/M Collaborative, were invited to participate in a limited competition for the design of a new Center for Advanced Medicine (CAM) for Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). This project included about 300,000 sf of ambulatory clinical space and underground parking for 300-350 cars. It was the first new building within the Longwood Medical Area to be built on a former residential neighborhood site outside the “hospital” area. As a result, this new building had to create linkages to the medical care facilities across the street at BWH as well as alleviate neighborhood concerns over excessive building massing and increased traffic generated by this new facility.
