The Arcus Foundation’s commitment to sustainable principles began with the decision to preserve and restore Kalamazoo’s historic 1874 Train Station and warehouse. Cambridge Seven Associate’s design incorporates recycled wood flooring of antique long leaf yellow pine, and masonry restoration was completed with used bricks, creating a solution meeting both green and preservation goals. C7A provides geothermal energy from fifty 250 foot deep, closed-loop wells, minimizing the carbon footprint, incorporates and uses natural daylighting in the new glass-enclosed winter garden. C7A’s environmental design initiatives perfectly reinforce the Arcus goals of promoting civil and animal rights.
